  • Equity – The difference between how much a property is worth and how much is owed on the property. If the borrower has paid $40,000 (not including interest owed) of the mortgage on a $100,000 property, their equity is $40,000. If they have paid $80,000 (again, not including interest), then their equity is $80,000
