Increasing The Value Of Your Home Tip #4: Paint
So far in our home improvement series we’ve talked about kitchens, bathrooms, flowers and clutter. Today, we’re going to look at painting.
For biggest transformation in the shortest amount of time, nothing beats painting. Here are a few tips to help you with your painting projects.
- 2 gallons of paint will is enough to cover a 12′ x 12′ room with two coats and costs around $40 depending on what brand you buy.
- Buying the cheapest paint is not always the best idea. Premium paints can sometimes be one coat paint, meaning you only need one coat without primer. Ask someone at the store you are visiting ot help you decide what’s best.
- When you’re choosing a color, have a look at design magazines or circulars from your local hardware store to see what colors are popular. Don’t go with something that is too trendy or you will have to paint again soon. Try colors that are warm and inviting.
- To give the illusion of higher ceilings and more space, paint the ceiling a shade or two lighter than the walls.
- Using the same colour in all the public areas of the house, particularly if you have an open plan, will help everything flow together and make the space seem bigger and more open.
- Don’t forget the trim. Details are what increase the value of your house even if you are not doing a huge remodeling project. Freshly painted trim adds pizzazz to a room.
Paint isn’t a miracle worker but it’s pretty close when you’re looking to increase the value of your home quickly and affordably. This combined with the other tips this week could be enough to help you raise the value of your home and avoid a negative equity situation.

Its like you read my mind! You appear to know so much about this, like you wrote the book in it or something. I think that you could do with a few pics to drive the message home a bit, but other than that, this is excellent blog. A great read. I will definitely be back.
